Bag is packed, watch and iPod are charged, water is in the fridge, Accel-Gels are lined up and ingredients double-checked, homemade gluten-free bread and honey on the counter, it can all mean just one thing....it's long run Friday!
Thanks to the PT this morning with Brian, I can actually bend my knee much more comfortably. Too bad my hamstrings are as tight as my son's electric guitar strings! You can't have it all I suppose. At least today I was able to manage a good portion of carbs, all gluten-free. My only quam is that I have to run alone tomorrow, and right now that just sounds horrible. Normally, I love running solo, but at this point I'm at a time in my training where I've just about had it. It's 16 days till race day, that means it's taper time, so that usually means this is when I struggle to keep the mental intensity going. This is when it's much more enjoyable to get through a long run with someone....but who would want to run 17 miles on a 90 degree day? I see no one jumping at the enticing opportunity. So, I'll add a few new songs to the iPod and perhaps find a new place to run.
I've checked the 10 day weather forecast for Duluth, MN (which only goes through June 11 currently) but they're predicting 61 deg as a high for that day while it'll be 90 deg in NC. At least I can look forward to running in cooler weather. Tomorrow is actually day 1 of the next 18 week training session for my next marathon on Oct. 2. Funny...I'm 16 days away from my 10th marathon in the past 3 years and it's the first day of training for the next race. I can only hope for another fabulous 10 marathons.
Now, most importantly, I must focus on USA as they are now up 2-1 in OT against Panama!!!!!!!!!!!! Cooper just scored on a PK to lead the team at the end of 1st OT. Sweet!!!!!! After spending nearly 2 hrs with my son on the soccer field tonight, it feels good to watch a little professional soccer on Fox soccer while swigging water. Go USA!!!
16 days......16 days.....16 days......
