All running aside, today has been a day of complete motherhood. Yes, I had my quiet, peaceful but painful 5 mile run on campus this morning, but as soon as I returned it was full on mommy mode and it hasn't slowed down.
Barely finishing my shower, I come to find out that the 1 yr old had confiscated my towel, made a mess of my bedroom, had several of my t-shirts on the floor, and left his drool over just about everything. By the time I was dressed and ready to take him swimming, the stench of poo had overpowered the Glade plug ins. Ugh. Glad he got that over with before heading to the pool, but really, when it goes through the diaper and shorts, I'd rather hand him off. So, two hours of swim time to wear him down for nap, then back home for another quick shower.
Next, fly down to the mall with the 14 yr old for a gut wrenching two hour shopping experience. I absolutely love hanging with my daughter, but I lothe shopping. I saw "girls" hanging out of dresses that were clearly too small for the person sporting them, g-strings coming out of shorts that were way too low, little kids whining because they didn't want to be there, and distasteful music blaring at every store we entered. I'd rather hang at the sports store all day, but since I have a "girly girl" daughter, it's Aeropostle and Claires.
Returned in time for the baby to wake up and to provide transportation for the next child. Off to Target for what ended up being a 45 minute excursion. The 11 yr old has been saving and doing extra chores around the house to save up for a Razor scooter. With all his money in hand, we handed it to the lady at checkout and happily followed the Target guy out with a new scooter that promises loads of fun. Only problem is that the box was too heavy for me to take out of the back of my car (even with all the weight lifting Meredith has provided me with), so it will stay there until daddy comes home from work. I'm probably strong enough but don't have the mental will power to do it (and then build it too).
Now it's back to chasing the 1 yr old up and down the sidewalks at 50mph...I seriously wonder what he'll be like as a teenager. He's fearless. Jumps from the furniture, jumps out of his crib (not climbs, jumps), dives off the stairs, runs full speed ahead at all times, and climbs everything in sight. He's not even two yet. We don't feed him sugar, he hasn't had juice yet, and I'm not sure he's ever sat more than 30 sec without moving (unless he's strapped in a car seat/stroller). His teachers will love his energy. :)
Attempting to cook dinner while the two older kids contain the baby, it's always a riot in our house. Can't wait for the hubby to return from work. No, I don't sit on the couch and eat bon bon's all day.
Motherhood is a beautiful thing. It's underestimated, it's often overlooked and taken for granted, it's busy and scary, and it's priceless all wrapped into one. The running keeps me sane and provides me with peace and extra patience. I feel very blessed.
AND....the best news of the week....my hemaglobin results came back higher than they've been in three years...I'm a 12.6!! Four weeks on a gluten-free diet, stable iron level at the present, next blood work scheduled for August...we'll see.
