Great week

I think today is the first day that my body is not screaming at me and my legs don't feel like lead.  Ahhh, celebrating this moment, trying to remember what it feels like, for Monday is just around the corner and it'll be downhill from there once again.

Seriously, for the past few weeks my body has been one big knot...everything aching, hurting, tight, heavy.  I feel slower when I run since my legs just don't want to move, there must be a gallon of lactic acid build up in each quad and hamstring alone, I've been feeling like I weigh the same as an elephant.  Last week Friday was an 8 mile run, we did it in 63 min. (which I believe is a PR for me but we weren't racing!)  After the run, I spent more time puking and what-not, but it felt amazing to find someone who can push my limits like that!

Monday of this week was a track workout, 4 mile run with 4  x 200's done at 44-46 sec each, jogging 200's between each one then a one hour workout at Active Edge with Meredith.  Tues was another attempt at this 8 mile run, same course, with the same person, same pace, same outcome!  I did have to walk twice, couldn't talk during the run, and went home feeling nauseated once again.   Made me rethink my Monday workout.....   Wednesday was our travel to DC day, so took the day off from running, and was hoping the fatigue and soreness would fade away (it didn't, but I'm sure the day off was beneficial).  Thursday was the 5 mile Turkey Trot that I had hoped to run in 37-38 min.  BUT, since my legs were still feeling sore, tired, heavy, and sluggish, it was NOT a good run day and I crossed the finish line feeling a little frustrated.   I finished in 39:02 and felt completely disappointed, not at all what I was hoping for.  I had wanted a good race as an indicator of where I am at training wise, but that wasn't possible, I should have taken two days off prior.

Thanksgiving day was fabulous, great time with family and friends, and loved being in DC.   This was my first major holiday with Celiac (gluten free) and since I wasn't doing the cooking, I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to be able to consume.  Left on Wednesday, came back on Saturday, lost two pounds, craving carbs like no one's business, but learned some good lessons along the way.

Friday morning the baby woke at 7am, so as not to disturb the rest of the family, I strapped him in the stroller, put on my running clothes/shoes, and headed out the hotel door to the Mt. Vernon trail along the Potomic River.  The best decision of the week.  The air was chilly, the sun warm, the river outstanding, the scenery breathtaking, the bridges a bit icy, but the trail perfect.  If only Durham could have trails like Virginia.....if only.   We didn't have room in the car to take the baby jogger, so I had no choice but to push Mateo in the beat up old stroller!  I must have looked like an idiot, but it didn't bother me any, it was a great workout.  Though the wheels shook, the stroller hard to steer, onward we went for 5.5 miles.  We stopped once we got to the Reagan airport so Mateo could wave bye bye to all the airplanes, then hit the playground so he could also burn off some energy.  It was fabulous, I could have run at least 25 miles, maybe next time.  My legs are finally "lead" free.
