Re-grouping today

After a long, physically and mentally draining weekend, it's time to re-group. Last week the training fell short of my expectations and just shy of the scheduled mileage, the weekend was no help, so I'm thankful it's a new week.

Saturday and Sunday were spent on the sidelines of the soccer fields watching our 11 yr old play 3 outstanding games, his first season playing U13 as an 11 yr old, so proud of his accomplishments and talents!! During the weekend, we learned that one our of daughter's classmates passed away and another student's brother was in the ICU fighting for his life. Talking about a traumatic weekend, ugh....reminders that life is fragile. In between games on Saturday, I thought it would be a great idea to get in my scheduled 8 mile run (6 mi at MP). NOT. Huge NOT! I made it 3 miles before hurling up my lunch, dry heaving just long enough to at least make it to the nearest bush. Since there were no sidewalks, I spent most of my time running up and down curbs, jumping back and forth between street and grass, and wishing I had never even gone for a run. I made it one more mile before hurling once again and spent the next 2 miles spitting profusely. Should not have eaten lunch (even though it was just a salad) before running!! Needless to say, the run was cut short and never did make it to MP, way too many hills and foaming at the mouth to call any of it a success. Oh well, live and learn.

Today started with a 16 mile long run. Since my iPod was dead (still can't locate the charger for it), I figured today would be a very long, quiet, solo run down the ATT and I wasn't sure I could deal with the silence. Ah ha! By mile three, it occurred to me that my cell phone has music on it! I turned it on, turned up the volume as high as it could go, and let everyone I passed listen to it as well. :) Miles 0-13 went by fast, felt good, my body knew what to do, nothing ached. After 13, different story. It felt more of a struggle to complete those 3 little miles! All in all, I was able to finish the 16 mile run in 2:11:47, an 8:14 pace, totally satisfied with that.

This week my focus will be more about getting back on track, following the scheule a little better, and figuring out different GF carb options.

Today: long run 16 miles
Tues: 6 miles x 6 strides
Wed: track workout
Thurs: off
Fri: 8 mi, 6 at MP
Sat: 4 mi easy
Sun: off
