End of the week run

12 mile long run day today, finished with an ave 7:55 pace, pleased.  Six of us on the ATT today, a very drizzly, chilly, overcast sort of day.  Thank you Kara for getting me out there!!!!!

Just 84 days away from Boston, may seem like a big number, but it's not.  The training goes by quickly and you always feel like you haven't put in enough miles or sprints before the big day, so I'm trying to stay on target with my training plan.

So far, for 2012, I've logged 105 miles of running!  This is the first time I've ever kept a running journal, of all the 30+ yrs I've been a runner, I never thought of keeping track of the number of miles I put on my feet. But, my 11 yr old and I came up with a cool math problem last year that got me thinking about the mileage I've run.  We took an average number of miles, days per week I run, and made it into a story problem that gave you the age that I would be when I had completed enough miles to circle the globe.  It goes like this:

I started running when I was 7 yrs old, but didn't put on serious miles until my early 20's.  We took an easy, estimated number:  running 3 mi, 3x per week = that's 468 miles/yr,  multiply that by 18 yrs= 8, 424 miles.  Then we averaged the next 15 yrs of running (this is when marathon running started for me) and estimated that from the ages of 25-40, I ran maybe 1,040 miles/year.  That equals 15,600 miles in that 15 yr span.  Adding it all up gives me an approximate 24,024 miles of running over 33 yrs.  Know how many miles the circumference of the earth is?  24,901.55 miles.  :)   Obviously, there were years I didn't run much due to pregnancies or injuries, so that's why we took simple yet low averages.  I know I was running 30 miles/week during college and even more than that for the past 3 yrs.  So I think it's a pretty good average. My son thought that was funny.

Yes, sometimes when I'm out running solo I have nothing better to think of!!  Crazy nerd....

Looking forward to a good week.
