I CAN do all things through Him who strengthens me...

I'm so glad I chose to get up early this morning and drive the 35 min. trek across the twin cities to do the LTF indoor tri. I spent most of the week debating whether or not it was worth doing since I hadn't done any biking or swimming for nearly 2. 5weeks, I don't think I've made it to bed much before 1am at any point in the past week either. It wasn't until about 11pm last night (I took a quick break from painting the trim in the hallway) that I checked my email. Much to my surprise, I had received an incredible email from my mom containing a link to a VERY inspiring video of a father and handicap son doing an ironman together. After wiping away my tears, I realized that no matter how low I feel or how unmotivated I've become, I have been blessed with a healthy mind and body that should not be taken for granted. I packed my gear, got my snacks and water ready for the race, walked around in Trimama's biking shoes (hoping for ironman stamina), and set my alarm.

The swim began at 8:20 with a wave of 10 people, 2 per lane. I warmed up with a few laps with my lane partner to make sure we wouldn't hit each other in the very narrow lane. I told her I'd let her go first so we could stagger a bit which is what we did at first. I noticed I kept catching up to her and found myself being splashed by her feet while drinking most of the water she splashed. That definitely wasn't working! After a few laps of this, I passed her and tried to just stay out of her wake. I managed 22 lengths in 10 min! My goal was 20 at most since I'd taken so much time off, so I was very pleased! The transition to the bike was fine except for the fact that I've never been on a spin cycle bike nor have I worn biking shoes ever! Oops. I had the official help me figure it out, adjust my seat, etc. but I lost 1.5-2 min. time because I never heard the start whistle!! SO MAD!!! That killed me, I was bummed. My goal was 9 miles (30 min.) and I ended up with 11.7 (should have been 12.7!!) Then the run. The time allowed was 20 min., I finished with 2.52 miles. Not bad! Overall I was very excited that I had finished and surpassed all my goals and expectations. I'm still bummed about the biking portion but that'll be a lesson to myself, PAY ATTENTION!

The results aren't up yet but for my first ever tri, I'm very pleased whatever they are!! I'm feeling more motivated, more inspired, more excited to get back into serious training. Tomorrow, Trimama and I are heading out to Gear West for some shoe/bike shopping, I'm buying my own stuff.

Yay!! Congrats Lora! Your rock, girl. I doubt I could do 22 lengths in 20 minutes. I am so proud of you - keep up that training!

It's easy to get overwhelmed and lose your motivation. Especially when you start trying juggle 3 or more sports in addition to your already full plate. You are doing better than I am if you are painting trim - I was just noticing the other day that mine looks awful!

Have fun bike shopping...it's the most fun shopping there is!
