Califonia Dreamin...

How can you not want to run when your surroundings look like this? My weekend of training in Newport Beach, CA was just what I needed. The sunshine, mountains, cactus plants, beach sand, ocean water, and palm trees were more beautiful than words can describe. I took myself down to the Newport Beach Preserve Park on Saturday morning where I did my first run. Wow, I was taken back by the amazing sights around me and couldn't help but wonder why I haven't moved out of MN!!! The hills were perfect but my IT band didn't think so, bummer. I was able to run for 30min. without pain each day, I was satisfied with that. The blue sky was so clear and the mountains just seemed to go on forever and ever. I felt like a kid opening a birthday present for the first time. I wanted to skip, shout, and sing with glee! Running in a tank and shorts is such a blessing!

Sunday was even better. I went for a swim in an OUTDOOR pool! Fabulous! After swimming, I laced up for another sunny, warm run. This time I ran with my cell phone so I could try and capture the beauty around me that will help me endure the remainder of the MN winter training. It's an incredible feeling to be on a run where all you can do is admire the scenery while your legs are pushing you up hills that go on for nearly a half mile, it's only until you turn around and look behind you that you realize what you've just accomplished.

So, now that I've come to the end of my first week of TRIATHLON training, I'm thrilled to say that I love it so far. I like doing two different workouts in a day and I actually have enjoyed the swimming more than the biking, go figure. It was much more difficult waking up to -11 deg and the annoying windchill factor of -28, but I will keep pressing on!
