The past week+ has been tough, fighting through this cold/cough/congestion has derailed my training a bit. Last week's total mileage was down to 28 miles, this week was at 46 miles, and my ability to push through has dwindled right along with these numbers. But, big turn around now that I've have antibiotics in my system for a full 48 hrs!! First day without a headache/sinus pressure in over a week!
February's running mileage total= 164miles
2012 mileage to date= 314 miles
Hard to think that elite runners are running 100-130+ miles/week, but then again, they're paid to do so. Since I'm not sporting the latest running fashion, don't have a personal coach or two, haven't financed a personal masseuse, and not depositing any winnings in the bank, I guess I'll stick to what works for me.
I will say that my paces have slowed down over the past few weeks, not all related to this cold, some just because I've had to run on my own more than I'd like to. Running with others really helps me push beyond what I think I'm capable of, keeps me distracted too. Unfortunately, trying to schedule long runs with others just hasn't panned out too well. The result? Yep, slow and steady these days. I feel like there isn't enough time to get caught up or back on track, especially with a couple of really long runs ahead, but I will try to push a little harder.
My new plan?! To run Boston with joy!! I've decided to take away the pressure of running Boston with a certain pace or goal, but rather to just run that race with a smile on my face and a spunk in my step. I've dreamed of this race for so long, I may as well enjoy it fully and take it all in. If I happen to BQ any time this year, then I'll run Boston again next year and maybe with more purpose.
This week:
Sunday--5/6 miles
Monday--24 mile long run
Tuesday--off
Wednesday--9 x 800's
Thursday-- 8 miles with 8 strides
Friday-- off
