busy, busy

Ahhh, this past weekend was just one of those weekends that flew by in a whirlwind, like a tornado that swoops down, picks you up, and throws you over yonder.  Did I sit at all?  Did I remember to eat?  I just don't know!  The one thing I do know is that I took my dad (parents flew in for the week) to the ATT for an awesome run together. :)  It was nostalgic  to run with my dad, my hero, my inspiration.  We did a 4 mile run at an 8:02 ave pace, pretty darn good for a 63 yr old man!!  I'm so proud of him, I hope I can be running that pace 25 yrs from now.  Amazing.

Monday night was a 3.5 mile run in CH (Meadowmont) while my son was at soccer practice.  Had to actually force myself to leave his practice and go for a run, I would have preferred to just sit and watch.  But, I felt good that I hit the road (after watching some of practice).  Running in various places around the area gives me good variety, different scenery, and varied terrain to spice things up, I love it.

This morning, despite the pouring rain yet AGAIN, was a 7 mile run on the Tar Heel race course.  Needed to attack Laurel Hill one more time, not that I conquered it, but at least I attempted to make it to the top with a decent speed (today's wasn't decent).  What I learned about Laurel Hill.....it's really only .3 straight up, then it levels out for another .3, then heads back up for another .4 or so.  It's tough, it's a mile long, but it's doable when you break it down.  If only my body would cooperate...if only my mind would push past it all.

Honestly, my brain has been in some type of "funk" since the marathon.  The desire to run is there, the love of running hasn't waivered, the excitement is still intact, but there's still this "funk" that tells my body to stop and walk.  Maybe it's physical, maybe it is my body.  Legs feel great, never better actually.  It's just when the going gets tough, the speed climbs higher or the hill gets longer, my heart really feels like it's busting out of me and I end up walking.  It feels like it's going at about 210/min, pounding, bursting... guessing I need to get a new strap for my heart rate monitor and start seeing if this is a physical thing or not.

Wednesday is iron infusion day!!  6 hours of iron slowly dripping right into my vein...straight up baby!   Can't wait to feel the effects of this infusion--longing for some energy, fewer headaches and general strength.  Sweet!!!
