Taking time off

With one week of full recovery from Boston, to the next week running 28 miles, to this week.....let's just say the body is telling me to back off.  Sluggish, tired, quads burning even when I jolt up to the second floor of our house, it's all saying time to back off.

This week began with a 6 mile trail run on Monday and ended with a 4 mile hilly run on Wednesday, the rest of the week is history.  No running, promise.  After a grueling massage therapy session on Wed., I left hobbling and wondering if that pain was worse than childbirth....same, just shorter duration. Good thing they teach you those breathing techniques during labor, they came in handy during my appointment.

7 days till the 25K I'm running in Michigan, can't believe I'm on a 4 day running hiatus!   I'm counting on my legs to remember how to run that far but I'm not thinking they'll remember how to run fast, especially since Boston was such an incredibly slow race.  Good thing I'm not planning on setting any PR's for this race.

To throw things off a bit, I attended a dinner last night with my husband, (a black tie affair) to honor his accomplishments as a professor.  That meant heels, make-up, hair done, and a fancy dress.... no Nike's or running clothes!!!  Let me say, sparkly 3 inch heels are not my thing, but I made it the whole evening in them!  I went from Alex's guitar practice, to picking up Mateo, to Alex's soccer practice, to sweltering in the heat at Brie's soccer game for an hour.

That gave me just 30 minutes to shower and get ready for this event, but I'm used to rushing so no big deal.  The bigger issue was that post-shower, I was still sweating!  Even with all my secrets, I was still dripping and wasn't  too excited to find out the cocktail hour was OUTSIDE!  What?  91 degrees and the cocktail hour was outside??  I had to excuse myself 3 times to go to the ladies room to dry off, ugh.  At least the dinner was in the A/C and my sweat was able to dry...so not cool.
