After sitting in my car for nearly 25 min. in front of the trail entrance, I finally decided to get out of the car and just get the run over with. I had planned on running 6-7 miles, but my mind was telling me to take the day off. I just wanted to nap! I finally stepped out of the car, got on the trail, turned on my Garmin and HR monitor, cranked up my music, and started to run. One foot in front of the other, some days that's all you can ask of yourself, just keep moving forward.
This was the first time wearing the HR monitor in months, so it actually gave me something to focus on and it kept me distracted. I wanted to see what my HR was when I got to that "point of puking" sensation that I tend to experience on hard run days. Ran the east campus trail, the Duke gardens, campus, and back around the east loop and felt amazingly great! Finished 8 miles in 64 minutes, averaging an 8:02 pace, and felt terrific. Wasn't able to push myself to that "puking" point, but did manage to get a few 175 readings while running up long hills. Even though it took about 4 miles to get a HR above 148, I averaged at 162 over the 8 miles. Now if I can just feel this comfortable at a 7:40 pace!!
Long run of 10 miles on Saturday, looking forward to it.
