Friday....fabulous Friday. I love Fridays!! Being able to run long on Thursdays has been wonderful. It gives me Friday as my recovery day and a day to get caught up on life before the hectic weekend begins. Friday is for grocery shopping so everything can be eaten by Monday, it's for a Sam's Club run before the Sat. morning crowd bombardes the place, it's for eating all day and relaxing in the evening, and for chilling with the kids. Fridays are sacred in my book.
Despite the fact that I woke up feeling sore, tired, quads on fire, I knew the morning workout at Active Edge was already scheduled--that means no backing out. I already know that I'm internally driven, type A personality, etc. etc., but playing a multitude of sports as a kid and all the way through college, has really been the force behind my driven personality. There were no late night parties before game days, no all-nighter's before a tennis match, there was only "yes coach, how many coach, I'll do more coach." There were homework assignments done in the training room while sitting in ice baths, tests studied for on road trips, sore muscles screaming after back to back soccer games. All of this, plus my internal drive, is what I've been accustomed to for years. So when my schedule says Active Edge 8:30am, that's where I'll be. It's that drive to push hard, see what the body can do, always want more. Sometimes that's a good thing, other times it gets me into trouble.
I probably could have pushed harder in retrospect, maybe should have done more. But it's Friday and I love Fridays. Massage therapy at noon is exactly what I needed. Right hip still not locked into place, but it's getting closer. Hopefully this knee will cooperate and settle down with some Advil.
Tomorrow morning, 5K race in Chapel Hill. Would love to hit somewhere between a 23:30 and 24:30. Hoping it's a flatter course, hoping to feel good, not have knee pain, and to run the last mile faster than the first two.
