My last post, July 14th? Really, has it been that long? It's not that it's been so long since my last post, it's been that long since I've had a GOOD, qualifying workout. Seriously. Pathetic. Frustrating. Whack. Horrifying.
With very little help these past few weeks, I'm finding myself struggling...struggling...trying to stay afloat. All I want to do is eat, eat, eat....chill out, avoid this heat wave, take care of matters that I've put off for so long, and eat some more. Yeah, if I'm eating as though I'm running 50 miles/week then it's okay, but that is not the case currently. So, I managed to pull out a 3 mile run this morning despite the suffocating feeling from all this heat/humidity. I'll take a cold, MN winter running day over this NC heat/humidity ANY day. There's just nothing pleasant about this.
In desperation to get a run in today, I dragged out the baby jogger and the baby and I headed to the track. Through negative thoughts, cursing, sweating, burning, and tears, I was able to run 3 miles while Mateo watched from the bleachers strapped in the jogger. He had an umbrella over him for shade, his sippy cup filled with ice and water, his nutri-grain waffle in hand, and his blanket near by just in case. He was as good as gold. When I finished, I got him out and he ran two laps around the track with me, a half mile. Sure, he got sidetracked by the tractor that was plowing the field, caught up with the stadium lights overhead, distracted by the girls that were also running around the track, and the grass must have been calling his name because he kept going to it. But, he went around twice and he smiled the whole time. He'll be two in August, wonder what he'll be able to do by then.
There you have it. Two measly three mile runs in the past 7 days, that's it. I thought my hiatus was over, but perhaps I was just wishing it was, apparently it's still plaguing me. I know this too shall pass. The great thing is that I have no injuries to speak of, that's a miracle in and of itself and for that, I'm delighted. So, when the rest of my family returns home, the workout sessions should get back on track and back to "normal."
