All this training...it can get long

I've made it to the last 3 weeks of training, the taper!!  I can't believe it's finally here and all those long runs are engrained in my muscle memory just waiting now to be called for duty.  The track workouts continue, the speed work will be crucial, but the hours spent on foot each Saturday are a thing of the past.  These are also the days of doubt and the feelings of inadequacy that creep within my mind and play all sorts of tricks on me.  This time I will stay focused, I'll use what I know and rely of what I've done in the past.  Come on, I've "been there done that" hundreds of times!
Reviewing the race course and watching the video of last year's race seem to help keep me focused on what lies ahead.  Setting a PR of anything faster than 3:59:07 is my goal, if that goes out the window at some point during the race, then my goal changes to just crossing the finish line uninjured. But oh how I want to set a new PR....it rings in my ears when I run, plays tricks with my mind, I have already pictured myself crossing that finish line (arms up in the air cheering with excitement) with a finish time of 3:58---I've seen it, feel it, worked for it, need it, want it.  So, we'll see.  The work continues...
