My USTA tennis match began quite late Thurs. night so I tucked the kids into bed before I left. It was just after the first game when I noticed some voices coming from behind the baseline curtain and moments later in walk my two kids and husband! The kids I had put to bed earlier are now standing on the court, still in their PJ's, grinning from ear to ear. It was great to see them there now cheering for their mommy! Here was my chance to show them perseverance, hard work, and determination! I wanted to show them how gracefully I hit the ball, how speedily I run down everything, and how I serve like that of Venus Williams. Instead, my nerves and fatigue got the best of me and I began making more errors. Now I needed to watch my language, my demeanor and my attitude. During the change overs my kids gave me little hints as to how to win then put their thumbs up for a confidence boost. They left after the first set and even though I was losing they said, "come on mom, you can beat this lady!" I felt proud at that moment. My kids were cheering me on, believing every minute that I was going to power my way through the match and come up on top. I want to be an inspiration for them.
This is a picture of my kids, Brie and Alex, at tennis lessons. :) I don't need my kids to be runners, tennis players or even soccer players (although I'd be thrilled if they were), I only want to inspire them to be passionate towards something and go for it.
