The Balancing Act

Running can be your passion but it can't pay the bills, it doesn't do the housework, and it certainly doesn't help the kids get off to their after school activities. Trying to balance family life while training can be complicated. As a mother of 2 and legal guardian of 2 others, I find myself spending more time in my Honda Pilot than in my own house. Everyone has an agenda. These are the times when I long for those 2 hour training runs because I know that I'll be unreachable, alone, and finally able to exhale. This is why I run! You know what it's like, one child has basketball, the other has piano, the other has a Dr. appt., the other has to take the SAT exam, and all mom wanted to do was run the 1/2 marathon that morning! That's the predicament I have found myself in for this weekend, so I won't be running the half. These are the days I wish running was my "job" and I was paid big bucks to do it. Training at 5:30 a.m, in the dark, during the coldest hours of the MN wintry days is hard enough. BUT, I do it so I'm able to be home in time to get the kids up and ready for school, that's how you balance it out. Being a mom is my priority, running is a necessity for me to be the best mom I can be.

it will be great running this weekend! There is a group from Gear West that goes out sunday mornings from Calhoun at 8am- I don't what time your church starts, but I was thinking of joining them this week. I'm not sure how fast I can run outside yet-but I did 90 minutes on the treadmill tues and that went well. although I was in the 10min mile range-til the end where I dropped to 8 min mile- We will probably skate a little Frid-see you there?

Great post! It is so true, I think we all deal with the balancing act daily.
