Long Run Catastrophe!
Loaded up with my water bottle, Gu's, Advil, and headed out the door for an 18 mile run this morning. The sun was just coming up over the horizon, looking like a beautiful day was about to unfold. All systems were a go. I typically run to the lakes and look to find a good hiding place near the water's edge to place my water bottle and Gu's. I prefer not to run with things in my hands or around my waist, so this is my alternative. After completing my first 8 mile loop, I went to grab my Gu and water when MUCH to my surprise, THE GU'S WERE MISSING! What?!!!! Who would steal a slimy, disgusting Gu?! I spent the next 9 miles thinking about how I needed some carbs, water, and what running club would feel pity on me and donate one of theirs. It completely threw off my run, mentally I was frustrated because I had planned on taking in 3 Gu's this morning and now I had none. My water bottle was still behind the tree but half of it was gone so I wasn't about to share germs with the thief!
Of course, by mile 14 I was feeling the effects of dehydration and fatigue. Chills, goosebumps, fatigue, and the awful burning sensation (like a bladder infection burn), I believe brownish-orange shouldn't be the color of urine?? I wasn't sure if it was even smart to continue, but being about 4 miles from home left me with no choice but to run. This was the toughest part of the run, but I believe it'll make me mentally stronger. :) So, finished 17 (instead of the 18) in 2:30:07, MUCH slower than I had hoped.
Oh, here's my new running toy! Yep, the Garmin 405!!! It's so slick, light weight, smaller than the 305, and a very pretty shade of green. HEART IT!! My Garmin 205 that I've had for over 2 years, stopped working last week so I decided to bring it back to REI to see if someone there could fix it. Instead of fixing it, they gave me an in-store voucher and for $50 more I was able to get the only 405 they had in stock!

Hi Faith, I ran across your blog over on Momo's blog (of course I was drawn to the word "Faith").
I'm not sure what creatures live in your area, but I left a Hammer Gel out on my kitchen ledge one time and a Gackel (large black annoying bird and I think I spelled the annoying name wrong) actually came down and grabbed it and flew off.
Regarding your other posts about Boston, have you run it before? If not, I wish you the best of luck in your quest. Stay patient and steady in your training and you will make it.
The nerve! Although I can't be certain what a GU is (my "unfaithfulness" is betraying me, isn't it?), I'm pretty sure you made some devious runner's day!
Love to you from your unfaithful :).
Outstanding run Faith! Impressive distance and numbers, especially given the circumstances. I probably would have turned around. Thanks for all your encouragement on my blog as well. Would love to hear more about the 405 -- I plan to get one next month...
